Design & Engineering

The Engineering Department provides the information required for production and installation of piping systems.

This information consist of:

Process & Instrumentation diagrams:

The schematic drawings and part lists for systems e.g. bilge / ballast / cooling water / fuel oil / heating / etc.

The design of these drawings is based on specifications of components and systems as supplied by the customer or by MSN in turn-key projects.

Arrangement drawings:

Arrangement drawing for engine rooms and other spaces. These drawings usually consist of the positioning of main components of 50 kg and more in the various spaces.

Classification approval if required:

If desired by the client, the design of MSN drawings can be in accordance with the requirements of all major classification societies.

3-Dimensional system designs:

For engineering purposes MSN uses NUPAS/CADMATIC software, in order to work in 3D. It enables us to outline various systems at an early stage and to prevent conflicts of different systems being engineered in the same space simultaneously.

Layout and routing of piping:

MSN engineers the routing and production of isometrics/production drawings for piping systems such as fuel lines, cooling water lines etc. Wherever possible production drawings will be linked to ships' sections in order to facilitate construction during section building.

Alignment drawings and protocols:

Besides the engineering of piping systems, MSN can provide the corresponding alignment drawings and protocols that are required to execute the correct alignment of propulsion and generator installations. Alignment drawings and protocols can also be ordered separately.

Field engineering:

Although most of the engineering work is done in-house at the MSN office, MSN has field engineers available for the tasks which have to be executed on site, such as conversion of engine rooms from gas-oil to HFO and other modifications.

To make these drawings, MSN uses the following SOFTWARE:

  • AutoCAD 2002;
  • Plant4D P&ID;
  • NUPAS / CADMATIC.
